All it lacks is finishing. I've gotten older, started a boat
building business and when I do turn a wrench I prefer to work
on old tractors so my old project car is on the block. I bought
this Corvette in a disassembled state about 20 years ago and
slowly brought it back. My intention was not to build a show
car or trailer queen but a good driver. The mechanical elements
of the car were finished about ten year ago. The work done is
listed below. Since then the car sees very limited road action
and given the choice of going for a drive or finishing the
interior I always opted for the drive. Now I drive it every
couple of months because the worse thing it to just let them
sit. Since driving it has become a chore, it's time to let it
go.
WHAT HAS BEEN DONE
All of the heavy work (body, engine and suspension) have been
done. The following items were replaced with new components
during the overhaul.
Suspension and Brakes - Most suspension components were
purchased from Vette Brakes and Products
Upper and Lower Ball Joints
Upper and Lower Control Arm Bushings (Polyurethane)
Sway Bar Bushings (Polyurethane)
Front Sway Bar
Shocks (KYB)
Coil Springs (460#)
Inner and Outer Tie-rods
Idler arm
Pittman arm
Front Wheel Bearings
Power Steering Control Valve
Trailing Arm Bushings
Rear Bearings Professionally rebuilt with correct bearing
preload
Factory Rear Links replaced with Vette Brakes adjustable model
Rear Shocks (KTB)
Rear Spring
All new Stainless Steel Emergency Brake Hardware including Shoes
and all Cables
Stainless Steel sleeved calipers professionally rebuilt
Brake Master Cylinder
NOTE: The car came with the base suspension but I upgraded to
more of an LT-1 Suspension during rebuild. The rear carries the
LT1 seven-leaf spring and the front 460 pound coil springs,
which are a bit lower spring rate then the 550 pound factory LT1
spring.
Engine
The numbers don't match. The engine was built by Magouyrk
Racing Engines, a well respected automotive machining and engine
building shop here in Alabama. Block (4-Bolt Mains) was bored,
decked and line honed. Oil passages were hand ground to improve
oil flow. Heads were also machined with complete valve job
(including new guides). Cam, roller rockers, valves, valve
springs, guides are all comp cam. The cam has higher lift and
duration than stock but is still very streetable.
Engine Accessories
Distributor is a HEI GM model so the chrome ignition shielding
is not on the car (I do have the shielding and it comes with the
car). This also means that the factory cable drive tachometer
is not connected although it would work is it was connected. I
have a small Sun brand Tachometer electronic unit mounted on the
steering column in its place.
New Aluminum Edlebrock Intake Manifold
New Holly 650 Spreadbore
Headers
New Exhaust and mufflers
New exhaust tips (factory)
Clutch Disc
Clutch Pressure Plate
Throw Out Bearing
Alternator
Power Steering Pump
Air Conditioning
Al AC Components are new. System is sealed and has never been
charged.
Body
The body work and paint were done in the late 1990's and have
held up well as the car is garage kept. But this car has been
on the road and has the dings to show for it. I have listed
below all imperfections that I can find.
Light scratches on rear deck where a shingle flew out of a dump
truck and landed on the car. Very noticeable Spider web crack
in the center of the hood (about 2 inch diameter) where the air
cleaner stud backed out when the air cleaner was removed but was
not noticed.
Three or four other very small dings or scratches (smaller than
an eraser tip)
WHAT IS NOT FINISHED
The passenger door panel is not in because there the window
regulator has an issue (The window motor is good).
The wiper door has not been installed. I lack one actuator
(about $80) and three special screws ($10)
All other parts including working hinges and new vacuum hoses
will come with the car.
Needs Gas Tank ($200) - I put a tank in long ago but she sprung
a leak. A new tank can be had for about $200 including
Shipping.
The seats are in need of foam and seat covers. The car came
with leather the seat in it are worn out vinyl. The cost of
recovering can vary. Do it yourself with vinyl covers can be
done for less than $500 (beware it's harder than it looks) or
so. Having a professional install leather can go over $1,000.
